Or “She is in all of his spaces and all of his thoughts. He contemplates formulas and degrees of rationality and they all turn into her. He thinks about time, which has only recently begun, or at least now feels different. He thinks: the Babylonians were wrong; time is made of her.” i don't know. i cried like three times. but that's not really a great way to measure a book, ya know. i did like it though. i don't know know WHY i was crying. this is a me problem. --- My only downside was the cursing. It just felt too much, personally, for a young adult novel. I would have liked to see the characters not limit their language in that way.

The prose is quite engaging and this is a much faster paced novel than I tend to read so I was gripped the whole way through. Blake aims for grand phrasing of emotions that land quite impactfully and, sure, it may be overwrought at times but that's exactly how obsessive love feels. I love the way it spirals through the stratosphere or seems to be tumbling out of control or even trails off mid-thought because it so lucidly captures untethered emotions (and intrusive thoughts, which are constantly present in this book). There is a musicality to it, but it is like every instrument in a band trying to all take a solo at once in the cacophony of feeling so much you aren’t sure if you can contain it. It is art, pure and simple. Regan and Aldo fall into something far beyond existential, beyond the quantum physics Aldo obsesses over. They fall deeply into each other. She doesn’t know what to deal with first, the use of ‘love’ or the fact that it isn’t what she was expecting, or the idea that anyone can possibly think fondly of her brain when she has put almost no effort into molding it. This book is a reminder that love always finds a way, even in the worst of times. Ira and Naomi have a hot and steamy love, but it’s also sweet and romantic. this is the second book i've read by coombs (the other being "you, me, and the honeybees"). in both books, coombs does this thing where the guy and the girl meet and, it's not instalove, but they immediately are like, i need to spend all of my time with you. and i'm obsessed with that. i think a lot of books are relying on tropes like "enemies to lovers" and "friends to lovers" and, arguably i guess this book could be either, depending on what you want to sell, but i think it's neither. and that's super refreshing.

Reader Reviews

Alone with You is the newest of the Walker Brother Series by Amanda Adams. This novel is more poignant than the first book in the series Crash and Burn, but no less HOT. The four brothers are mourning the loss of their mother and are each on a quest to fulfill a last hope of hers. The brothers adored their mother and all are struggling to some extent with her loss. The intricacies of the stories in Alone With You, seemingly easily put together, are also a testament to the acuity of the author’s perception. She is as skilled an observer as she is a writer, and the two combine to create these incredible adventures into the darker side of human nature while managing at the same time to remain delightfully lighthearted. The father who hit his son in anger; the friend who sleeps with her roommate’s boyfriend; the mentally challenged young woman impregnated by Down syndrome patient: these actions are treated like burdens to be carried rather than over-the-top melodramatic events. In an era of sensationalism, it’s quite refreshing. They are both bitter and this story keeps you wondering will they get their HEA with Claire being a headstrong woman. Jake needed to learn to let her go on her jobs as long as she came home to me. I love second chance romances and this one kept me intrigued. This is the second story in this series. I only hope the next book is as good as this one. I give this story 4 stars. Give this story a chance and see if Claire and Jake finally get their HEA after seven long years.

I could study you for a lifetime, carrying all of your peculiarities and discretions in the webs of my spidery palms, and still feel empty-handed.” The small town setting is wonderful. I could picture the ranch, the gravel roads, and the quaint shops. It is a town that every teenager can’t wait to leave, except Jake, but loves to return to. It is a town that everyone knows everyone and there are no secrets. It is an amazing setting that never fails to pull me in. What I didn't love: entirely too much strong language for a YA book, and sometimes I don't love the I hate everyone but you. I hope Lou learns from her mistakes and starts reacting with more kindness towards others (mainly her family and siblings)...I just don't like when rudeness is justified. These two fell in love with each other in third grade. When graduation came Claire left to follow her dream of becoming an Archeologist while Jake stayed on his mothers farm. Claire didn’t want their love to become hate filled so she left, as she couldn’t see herself settling down and raising a family when she wanted to discover the world. Jake wanted a family and a life with Claire on his farm. The farm was as much of a part of him as Archeology was for Claire. Instead of trying to figure out how to make it work they both walked away from each other for seven years.
