Peel the root vegetables then chop up into golf-ball sized pieces, place in salted boiling water and cook until very tender. Take the time to consider whether you'd like to splash out on a charged-up masher or if you're happy using a bit of elbow grease to thrash those tatties! The best thing about a manual potato masher is of the fact that it's cheap, cheerful and easy to clean. Thankfully, the pro included a demonstration, and you're going to want to pay attention after seeing the mouth-watering results. To defrost, allow the mash to come up to room temperature then place in a heatproof bowl, cover with tin foil and place over a pan of very gently simmering water until hot all the way through. Drain in a colander and leave to steam dry for a couple of minutes, then tip back into the pan and mash well.
