About this deal

If you’ve read and liked Paula Hawkins’ ‘The Girl on the Train,’ which was excellent, you’ll like this too. Waiting for a break in the traffic they duck across the busy road, and she tightens her grip on the small hand inside the soft woolen glove, so he has to run to keep up.

Every month you'll receive access to behind-the-scenes content, industry insights, exclusive giveaways, discounts and much more. I'm NOT giving out a spoiler, not even a tiny one, because this is one of those books you need to find out for yourself.Every review I've read, every quote on the book jacket, made such a big deal out of the huge twist, so I braced myself for it and. In actual fact the author had been very deliberate, clever and deceiving with language in the first part.

And,man, like I said, I didn't know much about the book so I'm just along for the ride just happy to be surprised and twisted around a little bit. Ray and Kate have been investigating something which they found in Jenna's purse whilst she was in custody. AND, despite all the great quotes I made note of, I can only use one that will give nothing away and tell you very little of this amazing debut, (but I love and believe it. The “twist” is what everyone is talking about, and yes, I too got caught out by it and didn’t see it coming!I was lead to believe in part 1, that Jenna was Jacob's heartbroken mother, who could not live with what had happened to her baby. You might think you know what's happening and how the characters are involved, but in reality, you have no clue. They walk as quickly as five-year-old legs will allow, her free hand holding his bag, which bangs against her knees. I do believe this was one of if not THE biggest twist I have ever come across in my fictional reading.

Even when you think she’s pulled the last piece out from under you, and surely her story can’t withstand another twist, she does it. Most police officers had one—it’s why you had to turn a blind eye to some of the jokes bandied about the cafeteria—but perhaps Kate was different. I also thought she did a particularly terrific job with the complex psychological aspects of the story--well done for a non-psychologist! The garden isn’t large, but winter is on its way, and by the time I reach the other side I can’t feel my toes. It happens in a heartbeat; the feeling of space by her side as he runs toward home, seeking out the warmth of the hall, with its porch-light glow.I don’t have time to think about doing this now, and although it’s heavy and awkward I add it to my bag. Meanwhile, they learn that the police liaison assigned to the boy's mother has fallen short of keeping contact with her. I did get a brief sense of deja vu - as I read a book last year The Bed I Made which also involves a young woman who moves to a secluded area to escape her past.

One of the reviews on the book’s inside cover states that I LET YOU GO “[w]ill actually make you gasp out loud. His coping mechanism relied on focusing on the investigation—on the hard evidence before them—and not dwelling too deeply on the emotions of the people involved. The pain of a mother, who in a split second let’s go of her son’s hand as he crosses the road, is one that will haunt her for the rest of her life, along with those impacted by this horrific accident. While reading this scene and immediately after, it got my mind ticking over about my son’s road sense and my own responsibility as a mum in negotiating crossing roads with my son.
