I now believe this item is out of print and may not be reprinted, so its unlikely this seller has any of tese books to sell, even though it is still listed as being available. Please don't give any help to these crooks by transmitting their address and publishing them on your wall. It was hussars of this "light" pattern, rather than the Polish heavy hussar, that were later to be copied across Europe.

Following the conservation work, financed by a public appeal launched by the Fondation Napoléon, of Napoleon’s Chasseur Colonel uniform worn on St Helena and the bicorne hat he wore at Waterloo, these two historic garments will be presented to the public at the Museums of Sens on Thursday 18 May at 17h. Their brass buttons were gilt, they had epaulettes according to their rank, and, on duty, they had a gilt gorget with a silver badge, generally a crowned eagle.Guy Dempsey has rendered all students of the French army of Napoleon a great service by preparing a new edition and translation of the 1822 publication, Collection des Uniformes des Armées Francaises de 1791 à 1814. The uniform was that of the Grenadiers of the Old Guard, differences being a plate less bearskin, a green and red plume and epaulettes. Trumpeters wore reversed colors, a red coat with a red collar, silver cuffs edged blue, lapels and turnbacks, silver and blue epaulettes, as well as other items described above. The uniform comprised pewter buttons, black boots, a brass helmet with a brass crest supporting a woolen crest named chenille ( caterpillar, in French), a sealskin turban, black leather visor, brass chin scales and red epaulettes for elite companies.

From 1793, the uniforms of the demi-brigade of the line infantry wore the blue "National Uniform" that was to be worn by all soldiers. Nine (small) button front with small stand-up collar, made in quality wool with four exterior pockets and one interior document pocket, lined in either black, brown polished cotton or natural white calico. The Habsburg emperors hired Hungarian hussars as mercenaries to serve against the Ottomans and on various battlefields throughout Western Europe. M1797 uniforms were still in use in May 1808: red lapels, turnbacks and cuffs; black collar; and white metal buttons. The plate on the shako was now a crowned eagle over a semicircle with the regimental number inscribed on it. When he became First Consul and later Emperor, Napoleon eschewed his general's uniform and habitually wore the simple green colonel uniform (non-Hussar) of a colonel of the Chasseur à Cheval of the Imperial Guard, the regiment that often served as his personal escort, with a large bicorne. These light hussars were ideal for reconnaissance and raiding sources of fodder and provisions in advance of the army.

K. Brown Military Collection at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, where they currently reside. Trumpeters wore reversed colors, facing sometimes edged with white lace, a coat often single-breasted with white buttonholes in front, no cuff flaps, white epaulettes, and a white of red mane on the helmet. The cuffs are plain and are closed with bone buttons, an excellent shirt for civilian or military impressions. As we cannot easily obtain individual regimental buttons we fit a generic brass or pewter button as standard.
