Description

The Metaxa Brandy Collection Star rating represents the minimum number of years the spirit has aged in the barrel. This heavenly spirit that is not quite a brandy or a cognac yet takes you on a journey to Greece that you will want to re-take time and time again. What Is Metaxa? This Amber spirit is more balanced and refined than the 5 Stars and offers fruity peach and prune flavours. The woody taste of the oak barrel lingers on the palate, complementing the sipping experience. Ingredients

The Seven Star expression is very similar to the Five Star. It’s more concentrated and a bit less floral on the nose. The rose petal notes, in particular, are less distinct. Overall, it’s more brandy-like than its younger sibling.Out of curiosity I tried it simply with a splash of soda, as I had a bottle of soda open in the fridge, and it worked really well. The Metaxa Master did say this was a versatile spirit, and he’s absolutely right. (Well, of course he is, that’s why he’s only the 5th Metaxa Master since the company was founded in 1888!) Add the fruit and 3 US tbsp (44 ml) of agave nectar into the pitcher. Carefully place the cut up watermelon, lemon slices, and orange slices into the pitcher and use the spoon to mix it up. Then, measure 3 US tbsp (44 ml) of agave nectar and pour it into the pitcher. You should not take more than 1 or 2 shots in a 1-2 hour period because of the high alcohol content. The Metaxa Private Reserve is the Master Blenders’ personal blend only made once a year, while the Metaxa Angels’ Treasure is ‘what the angels have left behind’. The final bottle in the collection is to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Metaxa with the brandies from the original casts. The other two Metaxas in their regular range are 5-Star and 7-Star, so you can figure out that they contain spirits aged for at least five and seven years respectively. So while the number of stars isn’t a comment on how ‘good’ the spirits are, you would naturally expect the 12-star to be richer and more complex, thanks to the extra time in the barrel. More About the Metaxa Stars

The white in the design represents Cycladic architecture, the blue for the Aegean Sea, and the bright gold for the sun. The exact amount of passion went into blending the Metaxa 12 Stars to interpret the Greek culture with this one-of-a-kind dark amber spirit. Ingredients Strain into your sugar rimmed old fashioned glass or low-ball glass, add a twist of lemon and enjoy!

Drinks Geek is run by Andrew & Ingrid, two drinks enthusiasts with 30 years of experience and an all-consuming passion for both fragrance and flavour. Created in 1888 and labeled first as a Cognac and then as a brandy until prohibited by naming regulations, Metaxa is exported to tens of countries. The maker remained in private hands until sold in 1989 to Grand Metropolitan, which in turn sold it in 2000 to Rémy Cointreau. [5] [6] [7] History [ edit ] Metaxa Angels’ Treasure is a blend that arose from the cellars of the house of Metaxa. The Master Blender describes the blend as “what the Angels have left behind,” as he combines the last of the aged blends from the barrels. The ultimate Metaxa, the 12 has been aged like a high quality single malt and this, combined with the flavors that make this drink so unique, ensures this is a truly memorable brandy.
